CLEARWATER, FL — October 26, 2020 — Tech Data today announced Bonnie Smith has joined the company as Chief Information Officer. Smith brings to Tech Data more than 30 years of experience running global shared-services operations and leading large-scale transformation initiatives.

As Tech Data’s Chief Information Officer, she will oversee all aspects of information technology deployment and lead the company’s global IT organization through a critical chapter of strategic innovation and digital transformation. Smith succeeds John “jt” Tonnison, who announced in July his desire to retire after almost two decades with the company. He will remain at Tech Data through mid-November to assist with the transition.

“This is a pivotal time for Tech Data as we invest in transforming our business to deliver higher value across the technology ecosystem, and we are fortunate to add Bonnie as a perfect fit to lead our technology organization,” said Rich Hume, chief executive officer, Tech Data. “Bonnie is a creative problem solver and passionate leader focused on driving growth, and she will be instrumental to helping us accelerate our objectives and differentiate Tech Data in new ways.”

“I’m thrilled to be joining Tech Data and am looking forward to partnering with the technology team and the CEO Staff to propel the company forward in its transformation journey,” Smith said. “I am excited to bring my experience in transforming businesses to unlock new opportunities and create better ways to serve our channel partners and colleagues at Tech Data.”

Smith joins Tech Data from Lear Corporation, where she served as Vice President and CIO for four years, leading a global team to execute transformational digital strategies. Her career features diverse experience across six Fortune 250 companies, as well as McKinsey & Company. She earned a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Indiana University of Pennsylvania and a MBA from University of Chicago with concentrations in International Business and Economics.
