ORION 247 WORKS WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF INTERNATIONAL TRADE TO ACCELERATE GROWTH PLANS IN THE MIDDLE EAST

October 30, 2020 – Over the last two years, the demand for our on-site IT support services across the Middle East has almost doubled. Dubai, in particular has become a hub for Orion, which has led us to working closely with the Department of International Trade (DIT) to explore growth opportunities and ultimately build a physical presence in the country and further extend our services throughout the UAE.

‘There are over 5000 British companies operating in the UAE, including BP, Shell, Rolls Royce, BAE Systems, SERCO and retailers such as John Lewis and Waitrose. Construction and the building of infrastructure is booming and having access to robust IT services is paramount for companies such as these and our partners across the region,’ explains Darrell Arnold, Sales Director at Orion 247.

The region has seen such an increase in activity, that Orion have appointed a Middle East & Gulf Development Specialist, Claire McQuillan. Claire is busy building relationships within the DIT, The British Centres for Business (BCB) and more recently The Iraq Britain Business Council (IBBC).

‘We are extremely enthusiastic about the development opportunities in the Gulf region and the wider Middle East. Our work with the BCB in Dubai is allowing me to focus on certain areas and countries which may have, at first, appeared problematic to provide services to. On the 19th November, I will be attending my first Iraq Britain Business Council event, The Tech Forum being held in Dubai. The main focus of the event is the development of digitalisation within Iraq and will present fantastic opportunities to learn from the experts and to talk about how Orion can add value to some of the world’s leading companies in the country,’ comments Claire.

According to the DIT, the Gulf region is continuing to see growth that is being driven by rising public sector spending, especially on physical and social infrastructure. The countries in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) include, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman – they have a combined GDP of $1.4 trillion making it a larger combined economy than South Korea.

Orion is not just only supplying our services into the region, but creating job opportunities for skilled and certified engineers on the ground in every country. We work with thousands of local IT specialists across the Gulf, providing a flexible working environment, training opportunities and access to regular work.
