Renewed community hub offers online resource for Canadian tech professionals

May 1, 2012, TORONTO– IT in Canada, Canada’s only integrated online social media news network, is relaunchingCanadaIT.com as a community hub for Canadian IT professionals.

The new site is built around an easy-to-use “members area” allowing site visitors to post jobs, news, and videos.  It has been met with glowing reviews from beta testers, who laud both its straightforward design and its ability to connect directly with an audience through the site.

Launched in 1996, CanadaIT.com has built a strong position in Google rankings, consistently receiving top ratings in key searches like “Canada IT jobs.”  The site often attracts 40 new job postings a week and traffic from IT professionals and managers in some of the industry’s most demanding positions.  CanadaIT.com also has strong ties to the Venture Capital community, as a result of having been managed by Dave Thomas of Rocket Builders since 2003.

In the relaunch, CanadaIT.com’s strong connections to jobs and the VC community are retained, and new capabilities have been added.  The “company news” section offers IT vendors and PR organizations an ability to post breaking news directly to a sizeable audience on the search-friendly platform.  The ‘news on the web’ section consolidates top stories from nine of IT in Canada’s industry news portals, and the ‘events’ tab mirrors IT in Canada’s own events calendar – meaning that each entry appears on both sites.  CanadaIT.com’s ‘new in social’ tab combines user-nominated videos with the most recent posts from IT in Canada’s forum.

“The industry has evolved since we first launched IT in Canada as ‘Canada’s only integrated social media news site’ in 2009,” said Michael O’Neil, Chief Content Officer for IT in Canada.  “‘Social’ is becoming less about the tools, and more about the connections.  As the leader in this space, we felt compelled to change with the times; the launch ofCanadaIT.com creates an entirely new level of social opportunity within the Canadian technology community.”

To expand the impact of the site, some of the CanadaIT.com content will be promoted through IT in Canada’s news portals.   IT in Canada will highlight new CanadaIT.com job postings through eWEEK Canada – on both the site and the daily e-newsletter – to keep readers on top of career opportunities.   IT in Canada has also announced a policy of ‘CanadaIT.com first’ as a source for news items posted to the news-crawlers displayed on its home page, and on its CIO, cloud, channels, and sustainability sites – meaning that firms posting to CanadaIT.com stand a good chance of being picked up on IT in Canada as well.

Long-time site executive Dave Thomas of Rocket Builders gave the new site a “thumbs-up” review.  “I’m really impressed by the interface and by the breadth of quality information,” he said after a pre-launch walkthrough.  “It looks like it will be national in scope – which makes it a really strong resource for both individuals and companies!”

John Jones, COO and Publisher of CanadaIT.com, said the new site expands on IT in Canada’s industry-leading ability to serve its market.  “With CanadaIT.com, we offer more options, and more social options – especially around our active, no-cost job board, and our high Google search rankings – that will help our audience to connect and grow together.  We envision CanadaIT.com as a major community presence in the industry where IT in Canada is already positioned as the quality leader for online and print media.”
