Bicsi logoTampa, Florida, April 19, 2013—BICSI, the international association supporting the information technology systems (ITS) industry with information, education and knowledge assessment, is pleased to announce that there are now more than 500 industry professionals who hold BICSI’s newest credential, the Registered Telecommunications Project Manager (RTPM).

The RTPM program was launched in September 2012 in order to support those who oversee and coordinate the interaction between designers, engineers, installers, and technicians when new ITS projects are being developed or are undergoing construction.

Project managers working in ITS are increasingly in demand. Today’s telecommunications project managers are required to possess knowledge of mechanical, electrical and telecommunications systems, as well as to be familiar with the entire scope of a telecommunications project from planning to implementation. The RTPM credential recognizes those individuals who have demonstrated both the knowledge and the ability to apply it over the multiple facets within telecommunications and ITS project management.

“BICSI’s release of the RTPM credential provides critical educational support for the project management professional, the third major category of resource required for the implementation of ITS projects. BICSI has been producing the reference material, credentials and training for the design and installation professional. The need for educated and experienced individuals who possess the knowledge of the project management process combined with the telecommunications process is a void that we are working to help fill by offering this credential and suite of educational tools. Anyone involved in the planning and building stages of a project can feel confident when a BICSI-credentialed RTPM is managing their project,” said BICSI President Jerry L. Bowman, RCDD, NTS, RTPM, CISSP, CPP, CDCDP.

The RTPM program covers the entire cycle of an ITS project, from bid to completion. It provides the student with a basic understanding of project management concepts and tools, and will focus on construction projects as they relate to ITS design and installation projects. Primary project types discussed include telecommunications, information technology, outside plant and wireless design.

BICSI courses prepare individuals for industry success and are educational tools that can be used to pursue the RTPM credential, which is achieved by passing an exam based on content found in the Telecommunications Project Management, BICSI Resource Material for RTPM Study reference material. This material contains key technical information that prospective RTPM candidates will need to successfully complete the exam. This material is to be used in conjunction with the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK®) Guide, and the Project Management: A Systems Approach to Planning, Scheduling and Controlling publication. The BICSI RTPM exam is offered via computer-based testing at Pearson VUE Authorized Testing Facilities, which are available at more than 4,500 sites in 165 countries.
